FIELD TRIP REPORTS

It was a beautiful sunny day with just the right amount of cloud cover so our retinas wouldn't burn staring into the trees while we spotted birds. Eleven of us met in the Nature Center.  We were provided with checklists and maps. Unfortunately a few of our planned routes were underwater, but we found other trails just as productive and stunningly beautiful. It was a great day for Spring birding for we were able to list 30 bird species!   Canada Goose, Wood Duck, Bufflehead, Great Egret, Mute Swan, Turkey Vulture, Red-Tailed Hawk, several Sandhill Crase up close, Ring-billed Gull, Mourning Dove, Rock Dove, Robin, Hermit Thrush, Golden-Crowned Kinglet, Ruby-Crowned Kinglet, Flicker, Eastern Phoebe, Tree Swallow, Barn Swallow, Chickadee, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Cape May Warbler, Red-winged Blackbird, Grackle, Starling, Cardinal, Junco, Field Sparrow and Song Sparrow.  The highlight of the day was seeing the Bluebird taking a bath in a puddle!   Our trip was expertly lead by Cyndi Duda. We had great company and met some new friends too.  Some of us worked up a hunger for some vittles after the hike.  So, we headed over to Culver's.  Did we mention ice cream? Check out our upcoming Field Trips!  The flowers and birds will be a treat!

As you can see, not only was laughter and fun plentiful, but the variety of birds were too!
